Keep up to date with all the news happening at our academy at the moment.
Year 6 visited the safety zone last week to learn first aid, fire safety and a whole lot more useful information to help keep themselves and others safe.
They'll be following this up with work on keeping safe online through their ICT lessons.
Today we have had a visit from our local M.P. Chris Leslie. He spent time with our Year 4 classes who have been learning about rain forests and the problems of deforestation, especially due to the palm oil industry. They had written him persuasive letter which they handed over.
Mr. Leslie also met with our school council and visited our youngest children in Foundation.
We're very proud of the children.
Thank you to all who came to our summer fair. It was a fantastic afternoon of fun, games and community spirit.
We raised a grand total of £1022 which is an amazing amount for 2 hours in an afternoon. The money will help us to put on even more events for families and our local community.
After checking the weather forecast so many times, Mel was so pleased when the rain held of until 5 o'clock!
Welcome back to school after the holiday. So far already this term we've seen wonderful displays going up around school and children being archaeologists!
Our children from Y2 upwards have started their leadership responsibilities. At some point over the year all children will have a responsibility for something that will make our school a better place. This will range from helping at lunchtime, litter picking or being our Friendship Finders. More on this last part later in the term.
Coming up is Internet Safety Week at the beginning of February.
Children and staff have enjoyed our traditional Christmas staff panto. The hall was full of laughter and quite a lot of surprise at the acting talents of the staff. Thanks go to Mr. Keyes who wrote the script.
Enjoy the Christmas break and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday 9th January.
There might only have been a little bit of snow at Djanogly Northgate but our Year 5s and 6s showed their resourcefulness in making the most of it to create snowmen and snow mountains.
Glad to see the children enjoying themselves at lunch time!
Consultation Period 13.11.17 to 22.12.17 (6 weeks)
We are today launching a consultation period to gather the views of parents, staff and wider stakeholders on the legal separation of Sherwood so that it became an individual academy in its own right.
As you are aware, Sherwood Academy is legally a satellite site of Djanogly Northgate Academy. As part of Djanogly Learning Trust we run Sherwood as a separate academy with its own distinct ethos, its own leadership team, staff and its own identity. However, legally it remains part of Northgate as far as the Department for Education (DfE) and the Local Authority (LA) are concerned.
Please click on this link to read the letter to parents. If you would like to respond to the consultation please email the Clerk to Governors: h.pickering@djanogly.org
Thank you to all the parents who came to help us celebrate the wonderful diversity we have at our school. Over 100 parents joined us in the afternoon as the children enjoyed activities such as Indian dance, stick dancing, a blind obstacle course, making diva lamps, drumming and food from different cultures. The activities helped us to recognise that our differences, abilities and disabilities are a strength of our community. The motivational talk from a wheelchair basketballer was really enjoyed by staff and children alike.
Here's what people said about Diversity Day:
‘It’s a great idea so people can learn about different cultures and what it’s like to be in another person’s shoes,’ Kajal Ojha, aged 11.
‘The Caribbean storyteller was great because she had lots of energy and she was funny,’ Kylah Haynes, aged 10.
'Rob Galbraith, the wheelchair basketball player, was really interesting and his background was amazing,’ Daisy Cole-Kenney, aged 10.
'It's really good that you are celebrating that we are all different but that we are all equal.' Just one of the positive comments from a parent.
A big thank you to the parents who helped run some of the activities on the day.
