Meet the Governors

Welcome …

On behalf of  Djanogly Northgate Academy’s Governing Body, I would like say welcome to our new children and parents and welcome back, for another year, to all our returning children and parents.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Gayle Aughton and I am very proud to be the Chair of Governors here at Djanogly Northgate and Djanogly Sherwood Rise.

I have lived in New Basford for over 20 years raising my family.  During the day I work full time for the Local Authority.  I believe that it is the fundamental right of all children to receive an outstanding quality of education. As Chair of Governors I am committed to working with  staff, children and parents to achieve this goal.

What do the Governors do?

The role of the Governing Body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

set the aims and objectives for the Academy
set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
monitor and evaluate the progress the Academy is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
be a source of challenge and support to the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School (a critical friend)

Featured Governor:

My name is Sunita Rathore. I joined the Djanogly Northgate Academy Governing Body in November 2014, as a Staff Governor.

I am currently the Parent Liaison Officer and Receptionist for Djanogly Northgate Sherwood Academy. I am also the Health and Safety Governor.

Prior to working for Djanogly Learning Trust I worked for a complaints department in a customer service role, I felt excellent communication was a key skill to bring to the position at Djanogly Sherwood and I started working for Djanogly Learning Trust in September 2013.

Outside of school I am married with two children who keep me very busy. I love to try new things, visit new places and I am always on the lookout for a new challenge. My passions are travelling and reading.

Why I wanted to be a governor – We believe that every child has a right to an education that gives them the best opportunity, the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed. I was part of the first team to create the sister-site of Djanogly Northgate Academy at Sherwood Rise; being part of the governing board means I have an active role in contributing to strategic decisions which meet the aims and ethos of Djanogly Northgate and Djanogly Northgate Sherwood Academy.

If you see me around school, please say ‘Hello’ and if you have any questions, please don’t be afraid to ask.
